When would I convert HTML to Markdown?

When migrating content from a CMS to a static site generator (Hugo, Jekyll, Next.js), when copying articles into a Markdown-based wiki, or when simplifying HTML from a WYSIWYG editor.

Are all HTML elements converted?

Common semantic elements (headings, paragraphs, links, images, lists, tables, code) are converted. Non-semantic elements like div and span are stripped unless they contain meaningful content.

Is inline CSS preserved?

No. Markdown is intentionally presentation-neutral. Inline styles are dropped during conversion.
